KMC commissions 25 tractors

With a view to addressing recurrent problems of refuse  management, the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC)  commissioned, last Wednesday, 25 tractors and trailers.

A colourful ceremony consecrated this important move take by KMC in order to ameliorate their delivery services. The cleansing materials are estimated at 9.6 millions dalasis.

In commissioning the fleet of tractors, Ismaila Sambou, secretary of state for Local Government, Lands and Religious Affairs, pointed out that waste management is one of the preponderant competence of municipalities and area councils throughout the country.

''It is the direct responbility of my Department of State to ensure that this and all other forms of social services are delivered regularly and efficiently in oder to improve the livelihood of the people,'' he added. He also added  that this important step taken by KMC is in line with President Yahya Jammeh's Operation Clean the Nation

SoS Sambou further noted that Kanifing Municipality is the most populated, and as such provide adequate and regular cleansing services.

Speakimg ealier, Gibou Jange, interim chairman of KMC Management Committee, elaborated on the rising challenges that KMC  faces.

Realising that efforts have long been underway so as to address  the situation once and for all, he  indicated that it  was against this background that the Interim Management Committee has been very instrumental in making this immense project a reality.

In a similar vein, Abdoulie M. B Sanyang, KMC's chief executive officer, gave an overview of the initiative to be undertaken by the municipality in order to remedy this recurrent problem. He then expressed hope that as from now these difficulties are history for the populations.

Also present at the ceremony were, Honourable Momodou Koto Cham, SoS for Forestry and Environment, National Assembly members, KMC mayor-aspirant, Yankuba Colley, Yai Compins, Alkalos, Executive Director, NEA and some other personalities.

The cutting of the ribbon was done by Ismaila Sambou,  SoS for Local Government, Lands and Religious Affairs.
