A modern olympic swimming pool centre, which will have extra physical fitness and health facilities, is currently under construction at the Kanifing institutional layout.

Owned and pioneered by Saul Sowe, a Gambian based in Norway, the centre is  being done at the tune of D15,000,000 (fifteen million dalasis).

The project, upon completion, is expected to be one of the most modern centres of such nature in the sub-region.

Giving an overview of the project, Saul Sowe said that the project would accommodate a swimming pool as well as an academic swimming school for students. He noted that the project will establish links with interested schools in The Gambia in a bid to inculcate swimming lessons in the school curriculum.

He said that other facilities in the centre will include a sophisticated physical rehabilitation and recreational unit for stroke and accident patients as well as a pain clinic, to be administered by highlly skilled experts.

"The centre will also house a special machine for old ages and a highly equipped pharmacy, as well as a modern state-of-the-art gym for body builders," he revealed.

Elated Sowe heaped praises on President Jammeh for allocating the land for the construction of the centre. He also commended other patriotic Gambians in the diaspora and the First International Bank for their strong financial support  in the realisation of the project.
