Man convicted for illegal possession of firearms

africa » gambia » kanifing
Monday, July 07, 2008
One Alagie Jagne was recently sentenced to pay a fine of D750 or in default to serve a three-month imprisonment. Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbake of the Kanifing Magistrates Court delivered this judgment after the accused admitted guilt of the offence.

According to the prosecution, the accused was found in possession of firearms, without authority contrary to the laws of The Gambia. On or about 13th May, 2008, at Serrekunda, the accused was found in possession of two AK 47 life rounds of ammunition and three life rounds of ammunition of a pistol, without authority or valid license.

In his judgment, the magistrate said the accused was brave enough to admit guilt and has also begged for mercy. He said this has prompted the court to exercise some degree of mercy by sentencing him to pay a fine of D750 or in default to serve three months imprisonment.

Sub-inspector Fadera represented the IGP.
