Tuesday, October 02, 2007

Kerewan Area Council recently embarked on the rehabilitation of 18 KM Feeder Road, linking Kerewan - Njawara and Banni-Salikene, in Lower and Central Baddibou Districts of the North Bank Region, in collaboration with MA Kharafi Road Construction Company in Kerewan, at a cost of D200,000.

Speaking at the sites, the Governor of North Bank Region, Eduwarr Seckan, underscored the importance of good road network which, he said, will enhance the free movement of people, goods and services within the region and beyond, thus promoting the socio-economic development of the country.

Governor Seckan applauded the management and staff of Kerewan Area Council, for their ability to undertake such meaningful projects within the Local Government Area (LGA).

The Governor also used the occasion to appeal to tax payers to settle their rates on time, in order to enable the Council to embark on similar development projects in other districts within the region. The Vice-Chairman of Kerewan Area Council and Councilor for Saaba Ward, Mao Jaiteh, commended the management and staff of the Council for maintaining sound financial management system, which among other factors, made it possible to implement these projects.

Alhaji Tamba Kinteh, Chief Executive Officer of Kerewan Area Council, commended MA Kharafi and staff in this endeavour. Mr Kinteh further intimated Council's willingness to plough back the revenue in the form of development projects. He thanked the people of Salikene for contributing towards the projects. The CEO finally appealed to the tax payers to settle their arrears on time, in order to enable the Council implment its planned activities.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alkalolu of Njawara, Aja Haddy Panneh and Alhaji Sainey Kanteh of Salikene, all hailed Kerewan Area Council for this significant achievement which will invariably improve the socio-economic well-being of the communities.

They assured the Council of their continuous support, in their drive to reduce poverty in the region. Also they took the opportunity to appeal to the Government and the Area Council to consider rehabilitating the roads, linking Njawara-Minteh Kunda; and from Njaba Kunda-Salikene, respectively.

The staff at the Department of Planning and Development, of Kerewan Area Council, supervised the work.
