Wednesday, October 03, 2007

Nema Youths Development and Sport Association (NYDSA), a charitable and non-profit making association based in the Kombos, on Saturday September 30th, formally inaugurated a new health post in Kiang Nema, Lower River Region.

The health post which was financed by the youths, aims amongst others, to complement government efforts in providing internal health facilities to the doorsteps of local communities.

In his inaugural speech at the village, Yorro Fadera, Chairman of the Youth Development and Sport Association, said "since the inception of the association in 2006, they have put many concerted efforts to ensure that the initiative work".

He added that the initiative, is geared towards complementing government efforts in providing internal health facilities in the local communities.  According to him, the decision taken by the youth to initiate a health post in the village also emanated from the fact that the villagers walk long distances to access medical post.

Yorro Fadera further urged the elders to encourage their children to take part in any meaningful development ventures for socio-economic development of The Gambia.

For his part, Bakering Fadera, who spoke on behalf of the advisory board of the association, said the association was formed basically to create development ventures in the village.

He noted that these developments can only be realised with the active participation of youths.

"This is why we formed this association because we realised that if the youths are united and have objective in their planning, then any meaningful development can be easly achieved", he said.

Kebbalang Fadera, Alkalo of Nema village, commended the youths for their concerted efforts, describing them as patriotic.

He said his people, especially women walk a minimum of 5 kilometres to the nearest health centre for basic medications.

He observed that the initiative will go a long way towards providing internal health services in the village.

Other speakers at the ceremony, included Ba-Hatab Fadera, Faba N Fadera, and Suwado Fadera, women head of the village.

The ceremony was attended by the Imam of the village, social workers and a cross section of the community.
