Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The Tanka Tanka Foundation, a charity organisation based in the Netherlands, last Sunday, donated thirteen second-hand vehicles to the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare (DoSH&SW), at a presentation ceremony at the Sunset Beach Hotel in Kotu. According to the donors, the  vehicles are meant to ease the logistic problems in the country's health sector.

The health centres that are to benefit from the donation are Sukuta, Essau, Njawara, Farafenni AFPRC Referral Hospital, Basse, Bansang Hospital, Kudang, and Bajakunda.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Malick Njie, Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare, expressed  gratitude to the donors over what he describeed as a timely intervention. The vehicles, he said, will help ameliorate the health delivery services in the country.

"The vehicles will contribute towards completing the president's aims for the country's health sector," he said.
Anna Bouman, founder of the Tanka Tanka Foundation, gave an overview of her organisation. The vehicle keys were handed over to Dr Mariatou Jallow, Chief Medical Director at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH).
