Forum for African Women Educationalist The Gambia chapter (FAWEGAM) in connection with the Sixteenth Day of Activism on Violence Against Women and Girls recently organised a one-day Bantaba on women's security at work places and homes, a ceremony held at Paradise Suites Hotel.

The UNFPA-backed one-day event aimed at highlighting and addressing security challenges confronting women.

In her welcome address, Beatrice Prom, the chairperson of FAWEGAM, said insecurity in work places and homes for women need to be tackle, describing the Bantaba as timely as it's geared towards mapping out the way forward to resolve the problem.

Amadou Cham, programme officer at Women's Bureau, said the situation of women at both homes and in work places call for a need for women's security.

Ansuman Yarbo, director of Tango, who delivered the opening statement, challenged the participants to study the reasons for the insecurity of women in society and not squarely centre deliberations on conflict between men and women, noting that the problem is multi-dimensional. Mr Yarbo urged the participants to produce recommendations at the end of the Bantaba to revert the trend.

He finally thanked FAWEGAM for the bold move, which sought to improve social justice in society.
