FA Cup champions Gambia Ports Authority beat rivals Real de Banjul 1-0 to land the GFA Super Cup on Friday at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

     A second-half brace from defender Bun Gaye aided Ports Authority to the Super Cup title and further boost-up their moral ahead of their CAF Confederation second-leg tie against ES Bengerville of Abidjan. Friday's final was a bright encounter, marred by fascinating technics from both sets of players.

Ports Authority made few changes to the line-up that lost to the Abidjan club, with Matarr Ceesay earning his league debut at the expense of Furmus Mendy, and Real de Banjul, who were without their tricky skipper Landing Conateh, opted for more new faces.

After a stalemate first-half encounter, Ports Authority turned a more aggressive side in the second interval - thanks to the introduction of fresh legs in Sanna Nyassi and Gibou Drammeh.

The Ferry Boy's efforts yielded results as late as the sixty-seven minute when Bun Gaye broke the deadlock by connecting home Yafai's tricky pass.

Ports nearly increased their tally in the seventy-forth minute, but substitute Gibou Drammeh's thunderbolt was parried to safety by the Real de Banjul goalie whose brilliant performance failed to go unnoticed.

Despite losing the league curtain-raiser, Real de Banjul coach Musa Njie was full of praises for his side's performance.

"It's a good game and both teams played well. So I' m not disappointed that we lost."

Coach Njie, however, fumed at what he described as a poor scoring technics from both sides.

"Despite the good display, scoring was the problem for both the sides and the lone-goal scoreline manifested this," revealed Njie who claimed Real de Banjul will go for the league title that is currently under their belt.

His counterpart coach Ebrima Joof-Cham believes the victory will help boost the moral of his players ahead of their return-leg tie in the CAF Confederation championships.

"The victory is vital for us. It will undoubtedly raise our spirit when we travel Ivory Coast for our return-leg in Confederation championship preliminaries."

Ports Authority will travel to the former French colony in the first week of March needing at least a two-goal victory to progress to the next stage of the continental competion.
