Bakau stumble to victory

africa » gambia » serrekunda
Monday, November 19, 2007

Pateh Nyan's stoppage time brace helped Bakau escaped with a narrow 1-0 win against Serrekunda East in their matchday two fixture played at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium on Saturday.

Having drawn their first match against Banjul in contrast to Serrekunda East winning their first match, Bakau were very much aware of the uphill challenge they will face in their final group tie, should they finish as second best in Saturday's fixture.

However, after 90 minutes of level score line, the Bakau fans counter themselves lucky, when Pateh Nyan coiled in the only goal in a goalmouth scramble.
Elsewhere, on the same day, Banjul sent Sukuta packing after a 2-1 win at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

The victory means Banjul and Bakau are level on points  (4 points apiece) in Group A with one final group matches at hand.

Serrekunda East are also on three points, and will surely face an uphill task when they face Banjul in their final group tie on Tuesday, November 20.

At the time of going to press, vice-champions, Brikama, were taking on Lamin, while Serrekunda West were locking horns with Gunjur.
