Pa Kalifa Sanyang, public relations officer at the Kanifing Municipal Council has outlined the Council's plans to stop Wanterr on the streets of Serrekunda Mosque road,Sayer Jobe avenue and Lat Kumba lowe road respectively during Tobaski and Koriteh feasts.

According to Mr Sanyang Wanterr will no longer be held along those streets due to the high population growth and some other social factors that cause a great deal of inconvinience to the residences of the area in terms of access to their compounds and other public amenities.

"Infact the Alkalo of Dippa-kunda has written to the Council to convey the concern of the residences of these affected areas." he noted. It is for these reasons that the Council proposed to the vendors that they use the burnt area of the market for this year's Tobaski sales until a suitable location is identify for the activity" he lamented.

He continued that The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry(GCCI) is willing work with the Kanifing Municipal Council and the Banjul City Council for the prospects of having a centralise Wanterr sales for the coming years, either at the Independent Stadium,Buffer Zone in Tallinding or any other suitable location.

PRO Sanyang revealed that this matter was a subject of a meeting that was chaired by HE President's office two days back and this was the result from the meeting.

Meanwhile the Council is urging the vendors and the public to coorperate with the authorities to maintain social order. "If people can travel far and wide to attained 'Lumos' I see no reason why they cannot reach out to any location within the Municipality where sales will be taking place," he elaborated.

"In as much as we are interested in generating more revenues we have a social responsibility to ensure that tax payers live in a clean and conducive environment and more importantly the council is out to protect the interest of every individuals and not any particular person or sector," he noted.
