Sunkary Badjie is BAC Chairman

africa » gambia » western region
Wednesday, February 20, 2008

The race for the post of chairman of the Brikama Area Council has been won by Sunkary Badjie, councilor for Somita Ward in Foni Berefet, Western Region.

The votes for the post was carried out by 28 councillors of the Brikama Area Council, shortly after taking oath of office to assume their four year mandate.

Mr Badjie and two other councilors namely Alhaji Bolong LK Jatta of Busumbala Ward and Lamin Haja Bojang of Nyambai Ward, vied for the post. But before voting time, reports revealed that Alhaji Bolong LK Jatta withdrew from the race giving room for the two  men which ultimately led to the nomination of Mr Badjie on majority vote.

In a similar vein, Lamin Haja Bojang was nominated by the councillors as the vice-chairman of the council - a post earlier held by Mr Badjie.

Mr Badjie is the third chairman of the Brikama Area Council since 2002. The first chairman was Dr Ahmed Gibril Jassey who was removed twice and replaced by Ousman Gaye who held the post until the council was dissolved in December 2007 to pave way for the local government elections.
