Alleged Burglar Vows Will Not Jump Bail

One Sulayman Manneh an accused person charged with house breaking and stealing on Thursday made a solemn promise to Principal Mgistrate Hilary Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that he will always be available for trial before the court and shall not jump bail if granted.

He made this statement after Magistrat Abeke threatened not to grant bail to those charge with stealing for a deterrent purpose since offenders keep repeating the act and some will not even appear for trial.

Manneh announced to the court that he is an electrician and keeping him in custody will jeopardize his work. His co-accused Omar Jallow also made a similar statement that he will never jump court bail if granted.

The two are facing charges of house breaking and stealing from one Saffia Dean, properties ranging from Android mobile phone, Samsung mobile and a piece of cloth locally called “Ganilla” amounting to D27,000 an allegation they both denied.

They were later granted bail in the sum of D50, 000 with one Gambian surety each who must swear to an affidavit of means and disclose to the registry his home and work address and correct phone numbers and further deposit his ID card to the court.

The case adjourned to 18th October 2016 for hearing.
