Alleged Drug Trafficker Deny Ownership of Cannabis




One Lamin .B Sawaneh, a native of Brikama and a student on Tuesday 20th September, 2016, at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Kebba Baldeh gave defence testimony in a drug trafficking trial pressed against him at the said court.

In his testimony Sawaneh denied ownership of the drug in question saying that  he disagree with the charge. He went on to narrate that he was on his way to Brikamaba and on arrival he disembarked from the vehicle and walked for almost 150 metres and heard a voice calling him and asking him to stop.

“I heard a voice calling me and asked me to stop, so when I stopped he ask me to take my bag, I told him that the bag is not mine, I further told him that the bag belongs to him.” he testified.

The accused is alleged to have on or about the 20th day of July at Brikamanding in the Central River Region of The Gambia, had in his possession, 2kg ,500g of cannabis sativa a prohibited drug thereby committed an offence.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday 27th September, for cross examination of DW1.
