Ambassador Alsup Begins Nationwide Tour

The United States Ambassador to The Gambia, C. Patricia Alsup, on Tuesday, September 6, began a comprehensive nationwide outreach to diverse communities throughout The Gambia.

ambassador-1Ambassador Alsup kicked-off the tour with a visit to Pipeline Mosque and Foundation on Kairaba Avenue.  She was received by Imam Famu Joof and Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Abou Danden Njie.

According to a press release, Ambassador Alsup donated 20 50kg bags of rice to the Mosque for distribution to Gambians in need, which falls in line with religious teachings encouraging alms to the poor.

Over the next two months, Ambassador Alsup will travel throughout The Gambia to meet with government and religious leaders to foster understanding.  She will also use the opportunity to donate bags of rice to mosques, churches, and others during the visits.

The US Ambassador also will take the opportunity to visit U.S. government-funded projects and programmes throughout the country.  The visits the release added,  will strengthen the U.S. Embassy’s partnership with beneficiaries, and allow the Ambassador to see first-hand the positive impact of these projects in rural Gambian communities.

She will also meet with selected Mandela Washington Fellows and International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) alumni to learn about their follow-up activities in support of Gambian development goals.
