Ambassador Soner: Gambia Demonstrates Solidarity with Turkey

The Turkish ambassador has  acknowledged that The Gambia demonstrated solidarity with his country during an abortive coup to overthrow the democratically elected government and the country’s legitimate President.

“On that challenging night, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh, Babili Mansa, was among the first to demonstrate solidarity with Turkey, her elected President and government without waiting to see or know how things would unfold,” His Excellency Ergin Soner said in reference to the July foiled coup in the transcontinental country.

He was speaking at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Cape Point on Friday on the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. He said the two countries have friendly and brotherly relations, based on long and deep rooted past.

“In this context, I am proud to share that The Gambia is a true friend for Turkey in Africa and Gambian people are brothers and sisters of the Turkish nation,” he noted

Ambassador Soner further stressed that Turkey has been and will always be a trans-continental brother of the Gambian people. “As this is the fourth and last national day reception for me here in Banjul as Turkish ambassador, I would like to extend my deepest heartfelt gratitude to the President and the people of The Gambia.”

He disclosed that The Gambia will very soon have a dual ambassador in Ankara serving The Gambia. “Therefore, the doors of my office would be widely opened to all Gambians,” he concluded.
