Another Rape Case Transferred to High Court

A suspected rape case involving a minor girl has been transferred to the High Court in Banjul by Magistrate Isatou Janneh of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Prosecutors alleged Lamin Camara of taking the victim girl (name withheld) into a nearby bush at Sanyang village in Kombo South on or about 7th September 2016 and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

He is also alleged to have unlawfully taken the minor into a nearby bush and keep her there until in the afternoon without the consent of her parents. Camara had denied both charges.

On Tuesday, Principal Magistrate Hilary Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court also ordered for the transfer of a suspected rape case involving one Peter Okiye to the Special Criminal Court in Banjul. Okiye is accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 13 year old minor girl in May this year.

Magistrate Janneh transferred the case to High Court following police prosecutor Sergeant 2294 Jammeh’s application. She ordered for Camara to be kept in remand pending the transfer of the case to the High Court.
