Sohna sends Sandefjord back to Premier League

asia
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Gambia international Ebrima Sohna has helped his Norwegian side, Sandefjord FC, to regain their position in the Norwegian Premier League, Observer Sports can reveal.

The combative midfielder, who featured in Gambia's 1-1 draw against Senegal in the 2010 World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers, made his come back by scoring Sandefjord's only goal in their 1-0 win against mid-table side, Notodden, on Saturday - a result that confirmed  Sandefjord's promotion to the Norway's Premier League also called the "Tippeligaen".

The hard fought victory saw Sandefjord maintain their third automatic promotion spot with 56 points in the 16-team league table, and even if they lose their two remaining matches, their closest rivals, Sogndal FC, will still settle behind them should they win their final two matches.

Sohna was recently awarded a three-year contract extension by Sandefjord barely 24 hours before he travelled to Banjul to join the Scorpions for the Dakar trip early this month, and the former Wallidan ace has proven that he deserved the deal.

"I can't wait to return to the first division league next year after our shock relegation to the second division league last season. I'm delighted that we are going back to where we belong, and what makes me happier even is the fact it was my only goal that made the difference on Saturday, elated Sohna told Observer Sports.

Sohna will rejoin his fellow country men Tijan Jaiteh and Njogu Demba, who ply their routes with the champions, Brann FC, come next season, and the diminutive midfielder revealed that re-joining his Gambian brothers in the top flight was dream come true.
