A book on St Augustine’s Senior Secondary School entitled “St Augustine’s School its history and accomplishment”, authored by Dr. George Francis Gomez, a former student of the said school, was recently launched at the school in Banjul.

book-on-stThe book chronicles a complete history and the various achievements registered by the school since its establishment. It also highlights various people who contributed to the success of the  school.

The book is made simple for the usage of students, teachers, researchers and the general public.

At the launching, the principal of the school, Rev Bruno Toupan, revealed the motive behind the initiative, saying the move was due to a  popular demand by the ex-students union based abroad, who encouraged the author to write a book about their ‘Alma Mata’ and that is where he took up the initiative.

The book, according to him, will serve as a useful tool for students in the country, as it will add a lot to the history of the school.

For his part, the Bishop of Banjul, RT Rev. Robert Ellison, elaborated on the achievements of the school, saying the interaction between the teachers and students also contributed to making the project a great success.

Mrs Juka Jabang, the principal of the West African International School, who reviewed the book, called on the people to make the best of the book in order to know the history of St Augustine’s.

The book, according to her, is divided into eleven chapters and 61 pages and that the book is written in simple and understandable language that every individual can read and understand easily.

“The book also talks about preservation of our culture especially some of the cultural activities that were happening in the school including the past sporting activities,” she added.
