The chief of defense staff of The Gambia Armed Forces, (GAF) Lt. Gen. Ousman Bargie, accompanied by senior officials of GAF on Monday began a nationwide tour to meet with personnel of the Forces as a follow-up to the recently concluded countrywide tour of security establishments by the National Security Council.
The tour aims at obtaining first hand information and knowledge about the status of The Gambia Armed Forces on security matters.
Speaking to reporters at the Banjul Ferry Terminal shortly before his departure, CDS Bargie said the delegation would seek to hear from their personnel concerning security issues to ensure maximum peace and security throughout the country as we head for the December 1, Presidential and other elections.
“We are mandated to ensure peace and security for the country and without peace and security there will be no [meaningful] development; so it is very important to ensure peace and security of the country and if we fail to do that it means we fail the Gambian people,” he asserted.
He further assured the public that GAF would do all they can to ensure that peace and security continue to prevail in the country.
