Principal Magistrate Hilary Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday made an order for a vehicle with registration number BJL 2164 H used in transporting stolen good in a theft case to be produced to the court by the prosecutor ASP Fadera.
The two accused persons, Dawda Sissoho and Sheikh Tijan Jeng were earlier arraigned alongside Ebou Cham and Saikou Cham on two counts of criminal offences ranging from conspiracy and stealing. Dawda Sissoho and Sheikh Tijan Jeng pleaded guilty to the offences charged while the other two denied the charges.
Thursday’s proceeding was slated for the prosecutor to narrate the facts of the case to the court after which the Magistrate will apply the appropriate procedure regarding the two accused persons who admitted guilt.
However after the prosecutor narrated the facts of the case and further tendered 30 packets of tile, 104 corrugated iron sheets and 102 agro jacks use for building as exhibits, the presiding magistrate made an order for the vehicle with the said registration number, used in transporting the said items to be produce and brought to court.
Magistrate Abeke further told the court that the case would be adjourned pending the production of the vehicle.
According to the facts narrated by the prosecutor, the two accused persons Dawda Sissoho and Sheikh Tijan Jeng were employees of Alhagie Kutubo Jahally Touray a businessman and the complainant in the case. The two were said to have managed and stole a duplicated key of the businessman’s store and stole several items therein.
The prosecutor further narrated that the vehicle with registration number BJL 2164 H is a commercial vehicle for goods and was used to transport the said items from Touray’s store and that the said vehicle failed to stop at the Jimpex check point.
He went to explain that an officer by the name Lyne Touray then drove another vehicle and chased after the carrier vehicle which was later caught at some distance. And the accused persons confessed that they stole the items.
The prosecutor added that the accused persons were very helpful to the police in their investigations as they (accused persons) led the police to recover 30 packets of tiles, 104 sheets of corrugated iron of 5metres long and 102 agro jacks.
The case adjourned to the 17th October 2016.
