Magistrate Muhammed Krubally of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court Wednesday convicted one Soriba Kanteh to a fine of D25, 000 in default to serve six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of house breaking.
Kanteh was charged on two counts of house breaking and stealing. He is said to have broken into the house of one Irmela Peters and stole over D670, 000 in April this year. The court convicted him on the charge of house breaking which he pleaded guilty to but he denied the charge of stealing. Hearing on the charge of stealing is now adjourned to 11th August.
In his plea of mitigation, Kanteh appealed for the court to exercise mercy on him. He said he is a family man with many responsibilities.
Magistrate Krubally said he took notice of the fact that the convict is a first time offender and based on that the court would impose a fine on him instead of a custodial sentence.
The magistrate said the court also has taken notice of the plea in mitigation of the convict and shall consider it.
