Magistrate Isatou Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court last week ordered one Mam Biram Secka to pay a compensation of D2, 000 to Modou Lamin Ceesay or serve a month imprisonment after he was found guilty by the court for unlawfully assaulting Ceesay.

Mam Biram was said to have unlawfully assaulted Modou Lamin Ceesay by stabbing him with a bottle on his head and neck causing him actual bodily harm on or about 17th September 2016 at Sinchu Alagie village.

The police prosecuting officer Sergeant 2202 Fadera told the court that the convict was sitting at a shop opposite their home where he met with the complainant. He said the two started with an argument which resulted to a fight.

He said during the fight, the convict ran into his house and brought a bottle, broke it and stabbed the complainant on his forehead at his back. He said they were separated by neighbours and the matter was reported to the Old Yundum Police Station and the convict was later arrested.

He said the complainant was taken to the Fajikunda Health Centre for treatment but water later refereed to Banjul where he was admitted for 72 hours.

Prosecutor Fadera informed the court that the complainant was discharged and with a medical report issued to him which was signed by one Dr. Correa. “Voluntary and cautionary statements were obtained from the convict in the presence of an independent witness.”
