SoS-Gam, a charity based in Denmark recently inaugurated a new technical workshop at FON-GAM Skill Training Institute in Tujereng, Kombo South.
At the opening ceremony, Modou Lamin Fatty, the principal of the FON-GAM Skills Training Institute, underscored the numerous efforts the Danish charity has been rendering towards the establishment of the centre in Tujereng village.
Fatty recalled that the centre started last year and the subjects offered are business management, English, Maths and computer studies , but now with the support from their friends, they are going to introduce construction and electrical installation courses, among others.
He lauded the donors for the move, saying their effort is highly appreciated by the people of the village.
According to him, the sponsors are providing everything for students to ensure a conducive learning environment, saying the students are only required to pay a registration fee of five hundred dalasis.
While advising students to take skills acquision seriously, Fatty also called on parents to enroll their children at the centre to learn gainful skills.
He equally challenged the community to take ownership of the centre for the benefit of their children.
For his part, Omar MJP Ndow, National Coordinator of FON-GAM, said the project marks another important milestone in their quest to provide gainful skills to the youths of the country.
“We decided to come up with new courses as we built a technical block for the students especially those who want to do construction, electrical installation and architectural designing,” he stated.
He called on the community of Tujereng to be committed to ensuring the sustainability of the center.
