Justice O Ottaba of the High Court in Banjul yesterday granted bail to Mamadou Sarjo Jallow, Gambia’s former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the sum of D200, 000, with two Gambian sureties.
Jallow’s bail application was brought before the court through his lawyer Antouman Gaye, seeking for an order to release the applicant on bail or to unconditionally release him from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul.
Jallow is said to have been arrested on 2nd September, 2016 at Manjai and detained by the NIA, according to a 25-paragraph affidavit dated 28th September 2016, deposed to by one Gibril S.M. Jawo of Farato.
After recounting on all the arguments made before him, Justice Otaba said the application is meritorious (likely to succeed on the merits of the case) and he was inclined to exercise his power judicially and judiciously in favour of the applicant.
He then granted the bail applicant in the sum of D200, 000 with two Gambian sureties in the like sum. He said the applicant should deposit his passport with the registrar of the court.
