The Sierra Leonean man who was charged with a single count of obtaining Gambian passport by false declaration has been discharged by acting Principal Magistrate Kebba Baldeh of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
Ebrima Mansaring was discharged by the court after the police prosecuting officer Chief Inspector B Njie applied under Section 68 of Criminal Procedure Code to withdraw the charge against him.
Mansaring is alleged to have given false declaration, of which he obtained a Gambian passport with number, PC 542038 for one Muhammed Dukureh, on or about 12th October 2016. He has denied the allegation.
Prosecutor Njie submitted that the prosecution decided to withdraw the case because it is under investigation to add other accused persons. He said the Director General of The Gambia Immigration Department directs the withdrawal of the case.
