Fraud Trial Stalls Due to Witness’s Absence

Magistrate Elizabeth Dun of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court yesterday adjourned the fraud trial involving the IGP against one Pa Momodou KB Faal who was charged with obtaining money by false pretense due to the absence of the prosecution witness.

The case was set for the third prosecution witness (PW3) to be cross examined by the accused but police prosecutor H. Jobe applied for an adjournment and explained that the witness in question was unreachable on phone.

It is alleged that the accused person in the month of September 2015, at Leman Street in Banjul with intent to defraud, obtained the amount of seventy-five thousand dalasi (D75, 000) from one Yankuba Conteh with the pretext of providing him with USA visa knowing same to be false.

The accused was granted bail in the sum of 25,000 with two Gambian sureties and further ordered to deposit all his traveling documents with the court. Faal also has another pending case before the same court on a similar charge.

Hearing continues on the 27th September 2016.
