Gold Award Holders Association (GAHA) The Gambia in partnership with Eye Africa TV recently held a sensitization forum targeting youth ahead of the December 1st election. The event attracted participants from different youth associations in the country.
GAHA, is a youth association that came together to complement the President’s Award Scheme and to bring together gold award holders to build an international award programme. It is a registered association under the umbrella body of the National Youth Council.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission, Sambujang Njie underscored the crucial role youth play in any election, noting that statistics have revealed that youths accounts for over 60% of the country’s population.
Njie informed that his institution has introduced new changes in the voting hours in this years’ election as polls will be opened at 8:00am and closed by 5:00pm in the evening.
The executive director of National Youth Council, Lamin Darboe highlighted the important role of youths in any successful election, positing that in any national development youths are never and will never be left out.
For his part, the public relations officer of The Gambia Police Force, Foday Konta, said that the success of any election needs the full and peaceful participation of the youths.
