Gambia is Green: First Lady Returns Thanks to Gambians

The First Lady of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, Her Excellency Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh has returned thanks and appreciation to Gambians for the overwhelming response to the “Gambia is Green” initiative launching last Saturday in Foni Kanilai, West Coast Region.

Thousands of Gambians drawn from all walks of life across the country including women and men, young and old, last Saturday converged at the President’s home village  for the official launching of the initiative championed by the First Lady.

The “Gambia is Green” initiative seeks to draw attention to the importance of food self-sufficiency, economic empowerment, environmental protection and poverty eradication. It also seeks to highlight and compliment the efforts of Government of The Gambia and His Excellency the President’s desire for agricultural economic empowerment as highlighted in Vision 2020, The Gambia National Agricultural Investment Plan and the Agricultural Natural Resources.

It was graced by the First Lady herself, His Excellency the President, the Vice President, cabinet ministers, National Assembly members and people from all walks of life. They were not only present but were actively involved in the entire harvesting exercise.

“I feel ever more proud and appreciative to the people of our great nation, the Islamic Republic of The Gambia. I wish to thank everyone for the unprecedented turnout on Saturday, November 5, at His Excellency, the President’s home village of Kanilai in support of the “Gambia is Green” initiative,” the First Lady posted on her Facebook Timeline.

“This exceptional show of support is a clear demonstration of our country’s ability to achieve food self-sufficiency if Gambia’s agriculture is embraced.”
