Harmony Gambia Link Association, a UK based charity recently held its 6th scholarship presentation at AFET Office in Brikama.
The UK-based charity through its Gambia Chapter, Harmony Gambia Link Association, has over the years being instrumental in supporting needy students by providing them with scholarships base on performance.
The association is currently sponsoring a number of students in various categories as part of their contribution to national development.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Chairman of the Association, Talibo Saidy said the charity is also engaged in key sectors such as, education, sports and health, noting that in the education sector they select students annually based on their academic performance.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Education Director Region One, Adama Faal, Regional Education officer at the said region, emphasized that many students nowadays are distracted by the advent of social media among others, which according to him, makes learning difficult.
Fall underscored the role of parent in ensuring that their children go to school and study very hard, saying it is also the responsibilities of students to know what is best for them. Education, he went on, is the key to success, pointing out that the reduction in the number of sponsored students is due to student’s attitude compounded with child’s right which many have misunderstood.
“Because if a parent provides food and shelter for a child and send him/her to school that is a right and to go to school and learn is the responsibility of the child.
