The IEC has called on people involved in the act of vandalising other’s property to desist from it immediately or face the full force of the law. This was contained in a press release issued by the Commission.
Below is the full text of the release.
The IEC wishes to congratulate all candidates, their supporters and all stakeholders for cooperating and tolerating each other thus far. A peaceful, transparent, free and fair election is what every Gambian is yearning for.
However, it has come to the notice of the Commission that some people under the guise of the campaign trails involve themselves in acts of vandalism by destroying the APRC flags and symbols at various places along the campaign trails as well as the unwanton destruction of a privately owned motor vehicle. We want such people to stop their acts immediately.
Anybody caught vandalising property will be handed over to the police for the law to take its course.
The IEC is reminding all stakeholders to be tolerant of each other during the remaining 3 days of the campaign period so that we can have a peaceful, transparent and credible election come December 1.
