The minister of Tourism and Culture has urged businessmen and women within and outside the tourism sector to invest in the industry to enable them reap the fruits of investment tomorrow.
Benjamin A. Roberts was speaking this week as part of his ongoing tour of tourism facilities across the Tourism Development Area. He is accompanied by senior officials of satellite institutions.
Minister Roberts expressed his impressions on the ongoing developments, especially in the hotels visited. He cited the under-construction Princess Hotel, Balafong Hotel – which will be opened soon, the refurbished Sunset Beach and Sun Beach Hotels as good examples.
He described these facilities as prime and impeccable, noting that as owners are investing today, in future they will be able to sit, relax and enjoy the fruits of their investments in two, three seasons down the line.
“We need people to invest in this industry to enable the industry move where it supposed to be. Government has no interest in doing business, therefore, hoteliers have to invest and upgrade their hotels,” he affirmed.
The minister said he is interested in seeing more new hotels in the destination and those that are being idle to be refurbished as well as do something to address some of those eyesores in the TDA as the new hotels coming are enhancement to the industry.
He, however, emphasised on standard quality and good service, saying there is the need to discuss strategy to improve standards. He commended investors who have undertaken this hotel investment.
