The Managing Director of The Gambia Ports Authority, Lamin L. Sanyang, has remarked that the July 22nd Revolution has brought about enormous development to The Gambia.
He was speaking in an interview with the J-22 Development Caravan Tour team on Wednesday at the GPA head office in Banjul.
MD Sanyang said the newly inaugurated J-22 Terminal of the GPA is an international gateway in terms of maritime trade as different types of vessels passe through it. “Our port is a transit point for so many countries; that makes it outstanding among others. Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali and Senegal are all extensively benefiting from the port of Banjul,” he said.
He went on to disclose the attributes of the Port, saying it is productive, efficient, cheap, safe and secure in terms of service delivery. “With all these outstanding qualities, the port of The Gambia cannot be compared to any other in the sub-region. It is well located and that is an added advantage that has contributed immensely to its advancement in various ways.”
According to him, through the support of President Jammeh, the port of The Gambia is known to be the best in many aspects. “The Port has experienced people who don’t compromise the aspect of security. In other ports around the world, containers get missing unlike The Gambia. As a result of tight security, many people are comfortable to use our port.”
He mentioned that it is only at the port of The Gambia that a container arrives and returns the same day with the same vessel. “I have been to the port of Antwerp, Singapore and others around the world but it is only in The Gambia you have an advantage of that nature. Being lucky to have a port with a standard format, J-22 Terminal which came under the leadership of President Jammeh is a blessing ushered in by the Revolution. The Revolution has brought a lot of positivity for the GPA. Without the transformative support and leadership of President Jammeh, we could not have reached this stage.
On behalf of GPA, I am registering profound gratitude and appreciation to President Jammeh for his benevolence and patriotism,” he concluded.
