J-22@22: More Health Facilities Inaugurated in Rural Gambia

The Kalagi Major Health Centre in the Foni Jarrol District of the West Coast Region is now open to patients after its inauguration yesterday.

RURAL GAMBIAInaugurating the facility on behalf of the President, Hon. Abdoulie Bojang the Speaker of the National Assembly said the new health centre will help provide quality healthcare delivery for the people of Kalagi and surrounding communities.

The government, he said, would continue to focus on youth and women’s empowerment with a view to attaining its set visions, and building the capacity of health workers and provide them with the required equipment.

The 22nd July anniversary, he said, is not only meant to celebrate the successes of the Revolution but also individuals that have been very supportive to the Revolution. He commended Minister Fatou Lamin Faye and Commanding Officer Colonel Salifu Bojang of the 2nd Infantry Batallion in Farafenni for their loyalty and unwavering support throughout the one-week tour.

Speaker Bojang went on to appeal that the first child to be born at the health facility be named either after Minister Faye or Colonel Bojang.

Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi, Minister of Local Government and Lands said the newly upgraded health facility comes with improvement in all aspects of healthcare delivery. The health sector, he told the gathering, is among the top priorities of President Jammeh and government.

He implored the people to make best use of the facility and take ownership to ensure it serves its purpose. “Staff will come and go but the health facility will remain; so I urge you to take good care of the health facility,” he told the gathering.

Speaking earlier, Borry Colley, former NAM of the Constituency said Foni Jarrol will vote massively for the President come December 1, Presidential elections. He reminded the people of Foni to be wary of people who would come to deceive them.

The Regional Health Director, WCR, Ngally Abubacarr Sambou, said the health centre has the potential to serve beyond Foni Jarrol, describing the inauguration as another landmark achievement for the Revolution.

He urged the community to support the health workers working at the health centre, while advising the health workers to always show commitment and determination in the execution of their duties.

Honorable Alhagie Jammeh, National Assembly member for Foni Jarrol Constituency urged the community to take ownership of the facility.

Deputising for the regional governor, Binta Sey-Jadama, Regional Disaster Management Coordinator for WCR, described the new Kalagi Major Health Centre as a milestone achievement in the region thanks to the great Revolution. The health facility, she said, will in no small measure ensure access to quality healthcare delivery.
