Magistrate Momodou L Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Monday issued a stark warning to young people, calling them to desist from animal theft. He said the act of animal theft is becoming a widespread societal concern, saying that must come to an end.
Magistrate Bojang made the warning while presiding over a criminal trial involving an accused person who is charged with stealing a sheep. According to the complainant’s father, Simbara Ceesay went with his sheep to a football park when the accused person came with a taxi and put the sheep inside the vehicle and drove away with it.
This message prompted the magistrate to make an open court warning saying that the act is criminal and must stop.
Some months ago, a young man was also arraigned before Magistrate Leon on a charge of stealing over twenty six heads of cattle.
Magistrate Bojang said he would deal with anyone found guilty of stealing other peoples’properties as prescribed by law. He further called on young people to venture into skilful jobs that will earn them decent money and not to go round stealing animals from people.
