Magistrate Denies Bail to Alleged Thief

Magistrate Isatou Janneh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court Wednesday denied granting bail to Abubacarr Yatara who is accused of house breaking and stealing.

Inspector Badjie, the police prosecuting officer objected to the granting of bail to Yatara, saying the case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for the recovery of the stolen items. He said the accused person is also facing a similar case.

Prosecutor Badjie said the accused person would interfere with the investigation should he be granted court bail and the stolen items may not be recovered.

Magistrate Janneh however warn the prosecution that if the CID did not fasten their investigation she would have no option but to grant bail to the accused person. She ordered for the accused person to remain in remand until 8th November 2016.

The accused person is alleged to have broken into the house of one Mr. Musa Sambou with intent to commit felony on or about 21st June 2016 at Daru Busumbala village in Kombo north.

He is also said to have unlawfully entered the house of Mr. Musa Sambou on the same day and stole an amount totalling to D61, 100. Yatara had denied both charges.

The case is adjourned to 8th November 2016.
