Police prosecutors at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court Monday levied a charge of giving false information to the Office of the President (OP) against one Baba Barrow before Principal Magistrate Kebba Baldeh.
Barrow is alleged to have given false information to the President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia by writing a letter to him falsifying that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) have investigated him and did not reveal any financial malpractice on his side but still asking him to report regularly for more than one year, which he knew to be false because the NIA where directed by the Office of the President to impound his travel documents, interview him check his bank accounts and put him on bail to be reporting, until the completion of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital Audit. He is said to have committed the act on or about 16th August, 2016.
He has denied any wrong doing and was granted bail with two Gambian sureties one of whoßß must deposit a title deed and the other must deposit his or her national identity card. The court ordered the accused person to surrender his travel documents to the registry of the court.
The case is adjourned to 16th November, 2016 at 12 noon.
