Police prosecutors on Wednesday charged one Muhammed Kongira with stealing cattle, dog among others before Magistrate Momodou L Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Kongira, a young man is facing three count charges ranging from house breaking, cattle theft and stealing from a motor vehicle contrary to the laws of the Gambia. The prosecution alleged that the accused on the 7th July 2016 at Kololi Blue Parrot in the Kanifing Municipality, allegedly broke into the house of Julia Cassel with intent to commit a felony to wit: stealing three goats, a dog and a car tape from a motor vehicle P HANNAH 1.
He denied the allegations and he was later granted bail in the sum of D100, 000.00 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means.
Readers would recall that Magistrate Bojang had earlier made a stark warning against animal theft when he was presiding over a similar cattle theft trial. He said that the act is becoming rampant and therefore called for an end to the practice.
