Principal Magistrate Hilary Abeke of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court last week denied granting bail to Babucarr Makamo after the police prosecutor revealed two other outstanding trials he is involved in.
Makamo is facing two-count charges of personating a public officer and attempting to commit felony which he denied responsibility of.
His denial of the charges prompted the prosecutor to make an application for the court to deny granting him bail.
Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Singhateh said, “Your worship, the prosecution is objecting to the bail of the accused person because he is standing trial on two other criminal offences (attempted rape and personating a public officer) before this court. This trial is the third case the accused is involved in before this court.”
The prosecutor expressed fear that the accused is likely going to commit another offence should the court grant him bail.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate said the accused is entitled to bail but the reasons advanced by the prosecutor were not challenged by the accused. He denied him bail and ordered for his remand pending the outcome of the case.
