The mayor of Banjul, Abdoulie Bah together with his counterpart from Oostende City in Belgium on Friday kick started an Under-15 knockout football tournament for children in Banjul. The tournament, which attracted 24 teams is being played at the former Banjul playing ground.
Meanwhile, two games played during the opening with New Perseverance entertaining Miami FC in the opening encounter. New Perseverance eliminated Miami FC following a 1-0 win.
In the late encounter, Juventus FC also send Black Diamond packing out of the tournament after a post-match penalty shootout win following a goalless stalemate in regulation time.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the mayor of Banjul, Abdoulie Bah expressed his utmost happiness to the children.
According to the mayor, this relationship between Banjul and Oostende is aimed at sponsoring the Under-15 teams and children with jerseys and some football equipment, noting that this is a very important initiative for his city because it will help to foster unity amongst the children of Banjul.
Mayor Bah revealed that all the 24 teams participating will go home with a prize and the winner will get a trophy and cash prize. The mayor went on to assure that this initiative will continue because the Banjul-Oostende relations are strong.
