Narcotic Officer gives Testimony in Drug Trial




Essa Bojang, a Narcotic officer attached at the Soma police station, Wednesday testified as second prosecution witness in a drug trial against Samba Juma Bah before Magistrate Manlafi Jarju at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.

The accused is said to have being found in possession of 1kg and 60g of suspected Cannabis Sativa on or about 18th February 2016 at the Yelli Tenda Ferry terminal in the Lower River Region. He had denied responsibility of the allegation.

In his testimony, the witness told the court that he was at the Yelli Tenda Ferry terminal on the day of the incident with three other officers when they saw the accused person holding a black bag.

He said when the accused person came to the checkpoint; they searched him but were not able to find anything on him. He said when they opened the black bag they found suspected Cannabis wrapped in a blue plastic  bag with black animal skin. He said the accused person accepted ownership of the suspected Canabis when the drug officers asked him.

The witness further stated that the accused person was arrested and taken to the station where he wrote his statement.

Under cross-examination, the witness maintained that the accused person was not the only one present at the premise of the Ferry terminal but the suspected Cannabis was found on the accused person.

The case is adjourned to 17th November 2016.
