Lamin Sima, a narcotic officer attached at the Barra Police Station was Tuesday cross-examined by Pa Harry Jammeh, the defence lawyer of Haruna Trawally, an accused person who is in a drug trial before Magistrate Manlafi Jarju of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
Under cross-examination, Sima, who is the first prosecution witness in the case, told the court that he saw the accused person in a canoe but the canoe was going fast as its peddler was trying to avoid the accused being arrested in the sea.
When asked by defence lawyer Jammeh whether all of the officers who went to arrest the accused cannot swim, Sima said he does not know, adding that the information he received was that the accused person was going to Farafenni with a bag of cannabis. He said the accused person was arrested at Ginak sea side and later taken to Barra police station
He asserted that the accused was arrested in the presence of only him and his operatives and no other person was present.
The case is adjourned to 3rd November 2016.
