The newly appointed Minister of Interior has vowed to execute his functions with sincerity and honesty and without fear or favour as expected of him by the President His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, Babili Mansa and the entire people of The Gambia.
Speaking at State House on Monday while taking his oaths as the new Interior Minister, Momodou Alieu Bah expressed appreciation to President Jammeh for the appointment, saying the Gambian leader has vested interest in the maintenance of law and order in the country.
Presided over by the Vice President and Minister of Women’s Affairs, Her Excellency Dr. Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy at her office at State House, Minister Bah took three oaths of office, secrecy and allegiance. He swore to carry out his duties without fear or favour, affection or ill-will in accordance with the Constitution and other laws of The Gambia. The swearing-in was administered by the Cabinet Secretary, Adama Ngum-Njie.
Vice President Njie-Saidy congratulated Minister Bah, saying his cumulative security and other experiences manifests that he is capable to handle the position.
According to her, it is always President Jammeh’s believe that for development to take place there must be peace. “Peace and security cannot be compromised. We live in a volatile world with security always at the top of the agenda.”
The Vice President reminded Bah that as the Interior Minister, President Jammeh looks up to him in the maintenance of peace in the country while assuring him of the government and the entire cabinet’s support at all times.
Mama Fatima Singateh, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice said the Interior Ministry is important and it requires trust and confidence to give the responsibility. “This Ministry handles every internal security and other activities within the country,” she said.
