On the President’s Award of Diaspora Gambians

The President over the weekend awarded 21 Diaspora Gambians for their unfeigned commitment to the socio-economic development of the country. The recipients were each conferred a national award and a Merit Certificate in a ceremony held at the Presidency as part of events marking the 22nd anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution.

These awards, conferred on this Patriotic and Nationalist Gambians, is another clear demonstration that the President is very much aware of the commitments of our young poeple in the development of the country and would always reward anyone deserving of it.

Since the advent of the Great July 22nd Revolution 22 years ago, there has been unprecedented development in the country in all spheres of national development. The President has consistently reached out to those in the Diaspora to contribute in the development of the country having created the environment and it is indeed gratifying to note that the 21 awarded are among the several thousand Diaspora Gambians who have heeded to those calls.

Therefore, to the awardees, we implore on you to continue the good work that you have been doing. There is a saying that to whom much is given, much is expected. We know that there are many Diaspora Gambians who have put their national interests above individual sentiments and are today contributing in portraying the positive image of the country. Many of them have been rewarded for their efforts but even those who have not yet been awarded this time, we urge you to continue the good job because your days are also around the corner.

To those Gambians in the Diaspora who are bent on tarnishing the image of the country, we hope that one day Allah (SWT) will cleanse their hearts to come to terms with the realities on the ground and equally take your rightful places in the development process of the country.
