Pomp & FANFARE in Soma As Women Renew Loyalty to President JAMMEH First Lady, VP Attend Rally

The First Lady, Her Excellency Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh and the Vice President Her Excellency Aja Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy, Wednesday evening joined thousands of Gambian women drawn from across the country for a mass women rally in Jarra Soma in the Lower River Region.

The duo arrived to a rousing and spectacular welcome. The rally, organised by the women of The Gambia, was meant to say thank you to President Jammeh and to renew their love, indebtedness and undivided loyalty to the President ahead of the December Elections.

The Jarra Soma rally was another unique and perfect platform for the women to demonstrate how formidable they are in their support for the Gambian leader and the ruling APRC Party.

Hon. Fatou Mbaye, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly described the rally as a historic one, while thanking all those women who attended and those that wished to attend but could not. She applauded the First Lady and the Vice President for joining the women in the rally. “We are all aware of the good work of the First Lady towards developing the country and advancing women empowerment.”

Aja Fatou Njie Fofana-Jarjusey, APRC Deputy National Women Mobiliser and Regional Women Mobiliser for LRR, said the huge turnout is a clear demonstration that the women are behind President Jammeh. “President Jammeh is worth everything for us [women] and we will not replace him for anything,” she asserted, while urging them to vote massively for the APRC in the election.

“Let’s make sure our families are behind President Jammeh because he [Jammeh] has done a lot for the country.”

Aja Fatou Camara of the Women Federation said the women will forever be behind The Gambian leader. “The women love the President at their own will because President Jammeh cannot go into every household for people to love him. I love him because I know what he wishes for the country and no one can change my mind.”

Aji Awa Sillah-Njie, Deputy Mayoress of Banjul advised people to wise up against detractors and to vote overwhelmingly for the APRC party. “I am booking an appointment with you all on the 2nd December when we will meet at the July 22nd Square to celebrate the victory.”

Aji Amie Jatta, public relations officer of the National Women Council said the women were proud to organise the rally because they know how President Jammeh has transformed their lives. “We cannot exchange President [Jammeh] for any other person and we are assuring him of a landslide win come next election,” Jatta told the rally.

Hon. Menata Njie, National Assembly member for Kiang West Constituency, said President Jammeh has transformed all sectors of development to better the lives of Gambians.

Salifu Puye, the host Governor, Chief Alhaji Yahya Jarjusey of Jarra West and Hon. Babou Gaye Sonko, APRC National Youth Mobiliser, all commended the women for conceiving the idea of the rally. The turnout, according to them, was an indication that victory for APRC is a foregone conclusion.

Also present at the rally included the Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service, Hon. Dodou Bammy Jange, who is also the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Cabinet Ministers, National Assembly members, Regional Governors, Chiefs, APRC National Mobiliser Yankuba Colley, Yaay Compins, and APRC stalwarts.
