The President, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa has donated twenty thousand United States Dollar to the Operation Save the Children Foundation in a ceremony held State House in Banjul.
Launched in November, 2014, “Operation Save the Children” Foundation (OSCF) is Her Excellency Madam Zineb Jammeh’s newest initiative complementing government’s broad empowerment programmes. Since inception, the Foundation has added to the already existing numerous health and women-led initiatives by Madam Jammeh who is a strong supporter of government’s numerous health policies and programmes like her coveted “Operation Save A Baby” initiative, which has been in the forefront of advocating and raising funds to care for newborns at the country’s only teaching hospital, the Edward Francis Small.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting at the State House, the President said the Foundation was established to better the lives of children who are the future of this country. He pledged his support to the Foundation. “We will do whatever it takes for Gambian children to continue to live in healthy and brighter future,” he said.
The President added that the main objective of the Foundation is to create better living condition for all the children in The Gambia, thus calling on all especially the ministers and institutions to support the needy by participating in the fundraising gala dinner scheduled for the 26th of this month. To this effect, the President immediately bought two tables and dedicated one of them to children who would be represented by a representative from all the regions of the country at the gala dinner to rejoice and celebrate.
Speaking earlier, the minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Fatou Lamin Faye, who is also a board member of the Foundation thanked President Jammeh for setting the pace.
“When you launched the Foundation, I was without doubt that you will support the Foundation. I am sure without your guidance and support we will not have come this far,” she told the President.
The ministers of Trade and Agriculture, Hon. Abdou Jobe and Hon. Ismaila Sanyang respectively spoke at the occasion, thanking the President for supporting initiatives dear to better the lives of Gambians, which includes women and children.
