Gambians continue to applaud the President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia following his intervention in ensuring that every Gambian goes home with either a sacrificial ram or meat for the Muslim feast of Eid ul-Fitr.
His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh, Babili Mansa, sold rams to Gambians through the Kanilai Farms between D4000 and D5000 and as well sold meat at 19 different locations in the Greater Banjul Area at giveaway prices.
Speaking in a Daily Observer interview this week, Ba Foday Bajo, one of the beneficiaries of the Presidential gesture described President Jammeh as a leader with innovative ideas, saying his intervention in making meat and ram affordable in The Gambia came at a time when it was needed the most.
“He is doing this not for profit but to support us with what we need. His rams are huge and unique and I must say, they worth more than the prices they were sold for, which shows that this initiative of the President is a business to support and not a business for profit,” he affirmed.
Nfamara Baldeh, a businessman and a native of Jarra Soma, said it was his father who advised him to ensure that he got a ram from the President, because the rams were healthy, huge, cheap and affordable. “This is my first time of buying from The President but the product has given me reasons to continue buying from him,” he assured.
Baldeh further praised the Gambian leader for coming up with such a brilliant idea, saying without his intervention, many families and individuals wouldn’t have been able to get themselves either the sacrificial ram or meat.
Fatou Drammeh, a housewife from Brikama, said despite the fact that her husband couldn’t afford the money to buy a ram for Tobaski, they were able to grill meat in their house. “I bought a lot of meat from President Jammeh at a low cost, which has served me throughout the feast. President Jammeh has always been so supportive to The Gambia and its people and I pray that Allah [SWT] continue to reward him abundantly,” she prayed.
Ousman Dem, a driver who described the President as a leader with a difference, pointed out that his tireless efforts in making meat and ram affordable in The Gambia is recognised globally.
He said the Presidential intervention has also enabled Gambians to cut cost on their Tobaski expenditure. He, therefore, thanked the President for being there for his people, whilst praying for Allah (SWT) to give him long live and good health.
For his part, Ousman Rambo Jatta, the Coordinator of the 2016 Presidential meat sale said the outcome has met the purpose it was meant for, by making meat affordable and accessible to the less privileged Jatta said. He was impressed and amazed with the level of sympathy showed by the President.
”Definitely if all the rich people in The Gambia can emulate the President, such issues would be history. I’m pleased to be the coordinator in the name of Alllah [SWT] on behalf of the President,” he concluded.
