President’s ‘Affordable’ Meat, Ram Price Delights Buyers

The intervention by the President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia to sell meat and rams at an affordable price has triggered overwhelming positive reactions from buyers, who turned in their numbers to take home one or two rams or meat few days before the just observed Tobaski.

As early as 16:00hrs on Sunday afternoon, a day before Gambians were to observe the Eid-Ul-Adha on Monday, hundreds of happy buyers swarmed the July 22nd Square in Banjul where the rams were on display waiting to be sold and the various outlets where he sold meat to those who cannot afford to buy rams.

This gesture by the Head of State, according to one Fatou Demba, who was spotted among many buyers carrying a ram, is meant to help Gambians, thus praying for the President and prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection of him. She also prayed for the longevity and prosperity of the Gambian leader as well as the strength to continue steering the affairs of this country.

“Let us just continue to pray for Allah to give him the strength and ability to continue to lead us because the President has provided us rams at affordable prices. Go to some other selling points, you will see the difference of prices between theirs and that of the President’s,” she told the Daily Observer.

Another buyer, Baboucarr Bojang, who said he had traveled all the way from Foni to buy ram from the President, said: “We are so grateful to the President and I am very happy to be here. We are praying for him for providing us rams at reasonable prices. He is really helping Gambians.”

For one Aja Sireng Baldeh, the President has and continues to help Gambians meet their important commitments, describing the rams as worth the price they were charged.

Meat was also on sale at the various outlets, mainly at strategic locations so that those who couldn’t afford to buy rams can have something to enjoy with their families. People begun to queue as early as 16:00hrs a day before the Tobaski at the various selling points in the Kanifing Municipality.

As opposed to the other market prices, the President sold stake for D100 and meat and born for D75 only.
