Exports play an important role in the economic development of any nation, influencing the level of economic growth, employment and the balance of payments. Growth in exports can create employment.
Therefore, news that The Gambia government aims to promote more export businesses in the country is very apt but hardly surprising due to the leadership’s commitment to the economic development of the country.
We would also wish to commend GIEPA for the development of the Export Advancement Programme (EAP), a hands-on export development support service for exporters of made-in-Gambia products and services. The objective of this very important programme is to develop new exporters and accelerate business growth of existing exporters by taking advantage of new export market opportunities.
Gambian authorities are aware that a skill based population is indispensible to economic development and as a result have put in place programmes and policies geared towards sustained development. This has led to the government’s creation of a conscious export promotion agency like GIEPA and the formulation a development strategy titled Programme for Accelerated Growth and Employment (PAGE), which has the main objective of promoting an accelerated and shared growth coupled with jobs’ creation.
The government is also aware that the development of the youth folk is indispensable because by developing the youths is like laying down solid foundations for sustainable economic growth and expansion.
As a result, there is a great lot to point at in the ever-enlivening crusade of uplifting the status of the youth of this country with the establishment of indispensable institutions as well as increasing youth representation at all levels of decision making.
So as we commend the government for always demonstrating its unqualified commitment to the development of this country, we would also like to implore the beneficiaries of this very important project to make the best use of the opportunity.
