Laity Dampha, a mechanic residing at Abuko, Monday testified as the First Prosecution Witness (PW1) in an assault trial against one Momodou Jallow before Magistrate Isatou Janneh at the Brikama Magistrate’s Court.
The witness in his testimony told the court that on 22nd May, 2015 he went with some people to visit his land at Jamburr Fula Kunda but upon arrival at the land, he found that part of the land was fenced with sticks.
He said they also found a lady with some boys working and when the lady saw them, she went inside the house and later her husband (accused) came out and asked them what they wanted. The witness said he told the man that he (witness) left his compound in the care of his brother and he came to visit the place. He said the accused person later confronted him with a cutlass.
According to the witness, the accused person’s wife quickly held her husband’s hand when she saw him confronting them with a cutlass, leading to a push and pull between the two.
He said the accused person hit his (witness) brother with the cutlass on his head. He said there was one old man who later mediated between them.
The witness said he and his people then went to the Alkalo of Jamburr with his (witness) brother’s head still stained with blood. He said the Jamburr Alkalo asked them to report the matter to Farato police station.
After reporting the matter to the police, the witness said they were escorted by a police officer to the Brikama health centre where his brother was treated and discharged.
Responding to the accused person’s questions during cross-examination, the witness said everything that the accused person did at the scene was in his presence.
The matter is now adjourned to 6th October for the second witness to testify.
