One Amro Mateya a resident of Kuloro and the assistant farm manager of Kharafi farm recently testified as the First Prosecution Witness (PW1) in the ongoing theft trial against one Foday Jarju, at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Isatou Janneh.
In his testimony, PW1 told the court that on the 15th June 2015 whiles on his way to Brikama market he saw two and half bags of Irish potatoes with a woman whom he ask where she got the potatoes from, and the woman responded that she bought it from one Lebanese.
He further told the court that, after that information he went and called a police officer who escorted him to the Lebanese. Upon their arrival, he said he asked the man (Lebanese) if he was the one that sold the potatoes to the woman but his response was negative.
PW1 further narrated that the police officer asked him to report to the police station which he did and his statement was obtained. While the woman also confessed that the accused person sold the potatoes to her and the accused person is the security guard at the farm.
He said pictures were also taken at the scene and the police prosecutor sergeant 2294 applied to tender the said pictures in evidence which were admitted and marked exhibit A.
While responding to questions from the accused person during cross examination PW1 revealed to the court that the accused person stole the potatoes and he lives at the store were the Irish potatoes are kept and it was the woman that told him that the accused person sold it to him.
The case was adjourned to 18th October 2016 for continuation.
